a winter walk

a week or two ago, mr. Smith and i went for a walk in our backyard. we’d had a fresh coat of wet snow the night before, and at the time of our walk it was raining, so that a nice thick layer of ice formed on top of the two feet we already had. we didn’t get very far, because it wasn’t easy to traverse the deep, wet, ice-covered snow, but we had fun exploring the forest behind our house, and then returned to the fenced-in part of the yard, where the chickens were trying to get to the bits of grass underneath all of the white stuff. after an hour or so, we were completely soaked and more than ready to come inside for Mexican hot chocolate!
