befriend your sewing machine at my studio

for me, winter is the season of streamlining and resetting plans and goals. because i don’t do any traveling in winter, i can hunker down and finish projects that have been lingering, and plan the new projects and skill-learning i’d like to tackle in the coming year. are you watching the new Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix? while i’m not a total convert to the Kon-Mari method, even i have been doing some “tidying up”.

perhaps you’ve come across that old sewing machine tucked away somewhere, maybe with a box of fabric next to it? or maybe you’ve just been feeling the urge to learn to sew?

Befriend Your Sewing Machine

One 3-hour class, held at my studio in Kerhonkson, NY $75

Do you have a sewing machine in your closet, but have never used it? Or you want to sew, but the last time you stitched anything up was in Home Ec class in 8th grade? If you are looking for a low-commitment class to get acquainted with your machine (or reacquainted with the art of sewing), this is the one for you! In this 3-hour session, you will learn how to thread your machine and wind a bobbin, sew a simple seam, and hem edges. You will make either a tote bag, pillowcase, or drawstring pouch. From this start you’ll have a foundation for moving on to all kinds of sewing projects, and your machine may just become your very BEST friend!

NOTE: I am not a repair person. Please be sure your machine is in working order; if in doubt, have it serviced. Also bring the machine’s manual (most can be downloaded if the original isn’t available).
