happy independence day!

i hope you all have some fun plans for your 4th of july! i had fun putting this colorful outfit together last week, and just realized it’s a perfect outfit for this weekend: red, white and blue, *hodge podge* style! of course, i’m not allowed to actually wear this dress and sun hat, as i made them for the shop, but i sure do wish i had a duplicate! i’ve been having fun with my new African fabrics, and i can’t wait to show you more. oh, and have you seen the bloomers yet?

it also occurred to me, while thinking about the idea of Independence Day, that it’s a perfect time to celebrate other kinds of independence too, like being self-employed, growing your own food, making your own clothes… and of course, supporting independent artisans! i think we should all buy something from an independent grower, maker or artist on monday!

i’m off to teach my 5-day, 40-hour workshop at Peters Valley Craft Center, and i could NOT be more excited. i’ve never taught such a lengthy, comprehensive class before; imagine what we can accomplish over 5 days of drafting our own patterns, making muslins, fitting and then sewing final pieces?
