lovely and amazing

last weekend when i was in the city for my monthly teaching gigs, i got lucky with my timing and was able to catch the opening of love-lies-green, curated by my friend hanna. she used to have a super-cool and crafty gallery in the east village called little cakes, (here are some pics from a 2006 show that i loved) and now she lives about an hour away from me upstate. the show was at mountain fold gallery and featured two artists: cristina toro and rebeca raney. i love cristina’s paintings (that’s the beautiful artist, who also lives in upstate NY, above left with darling erika somogyi) which remind me of textile prints and animal-filled story books. her use of color is inspirational. and rebeca’s intricate and dense embroideries are pretty spectacular, both technically and aesthetically! the show is up through february 20th so stop in if you can…
