Toronto trip #2: lettuce knit!

(click on thumbnails to see the pics bigger!)

my other new fave spot in Toronto is the darlingest yarn shop ever: Lettuce Knit. it felt just like home from the moment i arrived, because it’s owned by my Squam sister Megan, and Squammies Denny and Natalie teach and work there too! i was so happy to see them all again, this time on their home turf. and i will see them again in just three weeks! anyhoo, Alisa and i spent three evenings in a row there, first for their wednesday Knit Night (which was the most fun, raucous and best-attended knit night i’ve ever attended!), then i taught a private patternmaking class to some *select* peeps on thursday, and then Embroidery for Knitters on friday! it’s a lovely, vibrant store, with a selection that includes many indie dyers (like Viola and Studioloo) and local brands, in addition to some of my personal faves like Noro and Koigu.

and while there, we were always well-fed: chocolate cake and lemon meringue pie (to celebrate Denny’s birthday) from Wanda’s Pie in the Sky, and halfway through class a platter of treats appeared like something out of my dreams, with cupcakes and spanagels (spanakopita + bagel = spanagel)! the neighborhood Lettuce is in (Kensington Market) reminded me a lot of my old Brooklyn hood, Williamsburg, with lots of cute restaurants and indie shops. we ate at Mother’s Dumplings and Big Fat Burrito (i had the yam, YUM!) and sampled some kind of black tea-infused beer at Ronnie’s Local. (you’re starting to see why i believe i gained 10 pounds while i was there, aren’t you?)

oh, and Alisa’s been documenting our week too; see her first two reports here and here.
