2011 in pictures: december!!!

well, here’s my final set of photos to wrap up 2011. [note to self: next year, begin the wrap-up in december!]. above you see the grown-up version of those two little chicklets we brought home just a few months earlier. by this point it had been clear for a while that they were roosters, not hens. we were open to the idea of keeping one, or even both if they got along, but our normally peaceful backyard flock became rife with crime and violence once these to came of age. i won’t go into details but we were horrified! and no, they didn’t fight with each other. these two worked in tandem to commit their evil acts on our sweet girls! their feathers, however, were quite spectacular! but they had to go…

in their place came olivia (newton-john). the sole survivor of a raccoon attack which eliminated her whole flock. poor thing! chicken life is tough, but she has fit into our flock beautifully and we are determined that she will never see another raccoon if we can possibly help it. olivia is an Ameraucana and will lay another blue-green egg.

a small miracle happened in december: for about five minutes, gert and trissy shared the bed in front of the stove. it didn’t last long, but we were so happy to witness the moment and even capture it!

it was a surprisingly green month, and we tried to appreciate it with lots of walks. and smith and i finally got to spend our first xmas together at our house!

and then i went to Ohio to visit my family, and brought these two girls their very own coral cloches. i also taught one of them to crochet, and we’ve been having skype crochet dates ever since.

so, there you have it! 2011 was a very good year! and i have LOTS to tell you about that’s upcoming in 2012, so stay tuned…
