long overdue Squam post (part 1)

what the what?!? (sorry, i’ve been watching reruns of 30 Rock while i crochet in the evenings…) have i really not posted since may 31? oh my. that may be a new record for me. well, here i am to fill you in on my summer so far. it’s still july (barely)!

of course, every good summer kicks off with Squam. it just gets better and better. and i never take enough photos. and i can never think of what to say after really… you just gotta GO! trust me, if you feel the pull, you need to get yourself there. i have never heard of anyone regretting it!

let’s see, highlights? well, i have been very lucky every time i’ve been there with my cabinmates. always, amazing women. but this time? even better. because we were ALL teachers at SAW. so we understood each other, and told stories as we worked on or projects in front of the fire at night, and sometimes were quiet for a little while, and then more stories were told. SO FUN. i’m in love with every single one of them.

there were luna moths. i’ve never seen one before. i think i saw three. they are otherworldly.

also otherworldly: the loon calls. this time, they were spectacular. a few of us stood out on our cabin’s porch one night around midnight, and listened to the wildest cacophany of partying loons you’ve ever heard. it was crazy. if you didn’t know about loons, you might have been very scared.

i got to take a class, for the first time at a June session. a knitting class. with Jill! it was really fun, and i learned how to make shapes with knitting that i only knew how to do in crochet before. my experimental swatches are in the pics above.

my own classes were great fun, and i will post about them in Part 2!

and the best part is that i get to go back again in September! how lucky am i? this will be my first time as a full-time teacher at the Fall Session. and, it’ll be the 5th anniversary of Squam Art Workshops! so there are some special treats in store for sure! it looks like there are still a few open spots, is the lake calling to you…?
