happy new year my friends!
it’s january, the quiet time. i crave this season, winter, all year long. not because i love the cold (i don’t) but i do love the peacefulness and the reset. i revel in the potential of a whole new year, a blank canvas, and to set goals and take stock.
i love knowing i’m not going anywhere too far from home for the next few months. which means lots of fun local (Hudson Valley/Catskills, New York) in-person teaching. suddenly somehow i have five local places to teach! so many beloved venues have come and gone over the years, but right now there is a flush. i hope it lasts.
i’m working on getting my whole year’s teaching schedule posted, but so far i’ve got through April, which covers the bulk of my local offerings. and a whole bunch are coming right up, so i’m here to get the word out to you…
first up, this coming weekend in fact (sunday 1/12) i’m teaching two workshops at a cool new “micro department store” in Poughkeepsie, Canvas + Clothier: Embroidery from 11-2, and Mending from 3-6. i can’t wait to visit and spend the day here! it’s a joint venture of Utility Canvas (of which i am longtime devotee) and Hudson Clothier, both of whom produce all of their goods in America. and they have a cafe too!
next week, i’m also teaching an evening Visible Mending class, right in my hometown of Accord at the awesome brand-new Hudson Valley Seed Company store! FUN FACT: you may or may not know i’ve designed two of their lovely artist seed packs, for Heart Seed/Balloon Vine and Pincushion Flower!
later this month, i’m teaching my ever-popular Befriend Your Sewing Machine at my local yarn store, Yarn Farm Kingston. alas, the January session has already sold out, but nab your spot in the February 21st session before it’s too late! i’ve got a whole curriculum of crochet and hand sewing classes planned there too, including Crochet 102, Hook Up A Hat, Crochet Flower Garden, Embroidery for Knit and Crochet, and more, so take a look and see if something calls to you.
and as always, i’ve got a whole year of sewing programming (about once a month) planned at my favorite (and also the only) local fabric store, darling Beetle & Fred in Beacon. this month (1/31) we’re doing Leggings, Made to Measure but there’s something for every sewist on their schedule so i would give it a full perusal.
i hope to see you at one (or more) of these if you can!
