DELUXE Hand Sew A Shirt: Popover Edition (virtual)

6 two-hour sessions, over 10 weeks — $320

Wednesdays 4/2, 4/16, 4/30, 5/14, 5/28, and 6/11 from 5:30-7:30pm* EST, live via Zoom

*Note: time could change to 6-8pm EST if better for most enrolled. please let me know upon registration if you have a preference!

Let’s take this hand-sewn shirt up a notch! This is the follow-up to my original simple Hand Sew A Shirt class, in which we’ll sew a fancier version, like my blue denim one shown above. This shirt can have a collar, partial placket**, sleeves, cuffs, yoke, pleat or gathering, pockets, a shaped hem and/or side slits. All elements are optional, and you can pick and choose, to design your own custom shirt! We’ll do a little pattern hacking at the first session to work it all out, and then you can cut your pieces for the next session. Class will take place in 6 two-hour segments via Zoom, two weeks apart.

We will work with a base pattern (see supply list for options) for a simple, boxy top and create pattern pieces for the added elements, then sew our seams and details, including hand-stitched buttonholes. The list of pattern options below are all pretty similar, but do have slight variations in details, so look closely as you may be able to minimize your drafting (if that is appealing).

**Note: For this session, everyone will do a partial or “popover” placket like the one shown. I found that the order of operations is so different for a full placket that it complicated teaching the class. i hope to offer this class again in the Fall and we’ll do a full placket then!

Sessions will be recorded and available for at least 30 days from each class date.

Prerequisite for this class is that you’ve either taken my basic SAHSS class, or have a working knowledge of hand-sewing, including some basic stitches and seam/edge finishes.

Supplies needed:

Pattern for simple top (see list below)***
