new on the block

one of the reasons i love teaching is that it pushes me to reconnect with all of the different mediums and techniques i love to use. it’s been quite a while since i taught block printing, but this sunday (3/21) i’ll be teaching it again at the lovely new shop wing & clover in rhinebeck, ny (psssst: owner marla was co-founder of bird, a brooklyn classic). we will carve our own blocks and use them to stamp on fabric; this technique is great because it doesn’t require a lot of supplies or space and is easily done at home. once you learn how to do it, you can create prints on textiles or even finished items, like curtains, tea towels, and clothing (i think there are still a few spots left for those of you in the area). wing & clover has a really cool selection of classes scheduled; i am very tempted to take the paper-cut silhouette portrait class with jenny lee fowler. and tomorrow (3/20), my cohort jill is teaching her fabulous gigantic cable scarf; learn to knit cables in just 2 hours!

this is one of the many classes i am teaching through my new upstate venture, double knot studio. jill and i teach an assortment of fiber and textile arts at various locations around the area, including knitting, sewing, patternmaking, crochet, embroidery… you get the idea. if you live in or around the hudson valley/catskills region of new york, or even if you live in nyc but like to take weekend or day-trips, please check out the site, join our mailing list, and become a fan. we’ve got lots of ideas and plans in store! and we would be super thrilled if you would help spread the word, since we are both relatively new to the neighborhood.
