as promised, here are the clothes my students made in the 5-day class at Peter’s Valley Craft Center a few weeks ago. we had so much fun! i had six lovely ladies for the week, with a nice variety of body shapes! each of them drafted patterns for a skirt, T-shirt and dress, and then made at least one finished garment from each pattern. it was such a dream to have ample time in a workshop to do multiple projects and see the process through from drafting, to muslin/prototype, to fitting, to finished piece!
admittedly, most of these photos are of the *works in progress*, and of course i am missing a bunch, but whenever i remembered i snapped a pic each time something was tried on…
several of them even used their new skills to make variations… Natalee added some stylized pockets and played with the grainline of her stripes, and Yahaira made a tunic with a drapey cap sleeve.
it is always fun to see how even the most basic pattern, like the shift dress, can take on such different styles with just the slightest modifications! Yolanda’s dress fit like a glove, and Julie’s almost looks like it has sleeves (even though it doesn’t)…
Diana said she’s never had a skirt fit her so well! and Liza, like many of the others, was so pleased with her “muslin”, she made it into a finished shirt.
check out Natalee’s hot red skirt! she wanted a wide waistband, and now she knows how to do it…
Julie and Yahaira also posted on their blogs here and here.
thanks to all of my brave new patternmakers and clothing designers!
