a good time was had

to be honest, i wasn’t entirely sure what to expect of the first-ever Yarn Cupboard Winter Fiber Arts Festival and Market. i guess no one ever really does, the first time something happens! but i think all of our hopeful expectations were met, and beyond. it was wonderful to meet and hang with a new community of knitters, crocheters, spinners and dyers, who aren’t that far away (it took us about 3 1/2 hours to get to Syracuse) so we are likely to cross paths with many of them at Rhinebeck, Southern Adirondack, and the Fingerlakes Fiber Festivals.

i taught two workshops, Crochet for Knitters (which i’ll be teaching again at Squam in June) and Embroider Your Knits (photos of two of the student’s samplers above, which i remembered at the last minute to snap). i think both went swimmingly!

this marked the first, of what i expect to be many, teaching trips that Jill and i will embark upon. we adored our girly pink room with the twin beds and the bathmat molded into a welcoming swan…

as usual during whirlwind fun events, i pretty much forgot to take photos the whole time, and wish i could go back in time and document better. i include the one above purely because it is the only one i took that shows the weekend in action. there were seven vendors, so the marketplace was small, but the intimacy was nice and allowed those who stayed at the retreat plenty of opportunity to get to know the artists and their wares (and in many cases, make repeat purchases as the weekend progressed!). the marketplace was also open to the public and a good number of people came for just a few hours or a day, and some took a class as well. in my opinion the event was quite a success, and i am already looking forward and thinking about what to teach next year!
