come sew with me on Mackinac Island!

i’ve been traveling a LOT the past two years! in my efforts to spread the joy and magic of drafting your own sewing patterns to fit your unique body, i’m always looking to teach in areas where i haven’t yet. so i’m extra excited to be coming to Michigan for the first time this fall, to teach a 4-day Garment Making Retreat with Kinship Handwork on Mackinac Island!

Mackinac is a car-free island where bicycles and — wait for it — HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES are the two main forms of transportation.

doesn’t this place look just lovely?

the retreat is created and organized by my friend Tina of Kinship Handwork. Tina and i met a few years ago when she attended a retreat i taught at, and was already wearing a handmade wardrobe featuring some pieces she had made from some of my online classes.

the photo above is from a few years ago when i taught my 5-day class at Peters Valley in NJ. i adore teaching women of all ages and body sizes that they can make clothes to fit their own unique shape.

in this retreat, we will focus on the shift dress pattern, which can be come anything from a dress, blouse or tank, to a jacket, hoodie, t-shirt… really any type of garment for the torso! you will draft a pattern using your measurements, and then i will show you how to re-style that pattern into endless variations.

we hope you might consider joining us! if you’ve never attended a sewing or craft retreat before, the opportunity to immerse yourself in your creativity without interruption is such a treat in contrast to our busy lives. you can find the full details over here. please do get in touch if you have any questions or would like to know more…
