Crochet 101 (virtual AND in-person!)

continuing right along with my selection of Winter Local + Virtual Workshops, this one is happening BOTH ways! Crochet 101 will introduce you to the basic skills of crochet, and get you hooking up simple projects like scarves, cowls, hats and blankets. if you’ve never had a portable fiber craft to keep your hands busy and soothe your mind during all those idle moments in the day, drowsy evenings on the couch, cozy afternoons by a woodstove, or summer picnics in the park, i can’t recommend it highly enough. and if you already know the joy because you knit, embroider, hand sew or other fiber craft, why not add to your repertoire? it’s good for the muscles to mix it up a bit!

i prefer to teach beginner crochet classes as multiple sessions, so that when you go home and practice after the first lesson, and possibly have problems or questions, you’ll have a chance (or two) to come back and together we’ll figure out what’s happening. so i’m offering both an in-person (at my studio in Kerhonkson, NY) and a virtual version of Crochet 101 in February:

  • Section 1 (in-person): Fridays, February 9, 16, + 23 5:30-7:30pm
  • Section 2 (virtual): Sundays February 11, 18 + 25 12-2pm

Crochet 101

Three 2-hour classes, $150

Crochet is an endlessly versatile technique for making hats, scarves and sweaters, not to mention amigurumi, sculpture, and rugs. In this class we will learn all of the basics: chain, single, double and triple crochet, increasing/decreasing, and how the basic stitches combine to form stitch patterns. With the foundation skills learned, you’ll be able to hook up a scarf, cowl, rectangular wrap, or many other simple projects.

Supplies:
– smooth (not bumpy or fuzzy), preferably wool yarn in a light or bright color (easier to see your stitches) in either worsted or bulky size
— a crochet hook (G or H for worsted, J or K for bulky)
