reflections on Squam

well.

i’m still not sure how eloquent i can be on my experience at Squam Art Workshops. i mean, how do you describe heaven to mere mortals? let’s just say i now have a pretty clear definition of my idea of a perfect getaway:

– giving a ride to a stranger and feeling practically like sisters by the time we arrive

– nature in all its glory everywhere you look… the lake, the mountains, the moss-lined path through the woods, the wildflowers, the butterflies…

– staying in a luxuriously rustic cabin with water lapping beneath the screened-in porch… whoever said “champagne in a tin cup” got it spot on!

– yummy, healthy meals with multiple dessert options, announced by the clang of a bell

– spending all day every day making, learning to make, or teaching others to make

– sleeping to the sounds of loons, frogs, crickets and rain

– finding new best friends and kindred spirits that you’ve never met before

– having a famous rock star take my classes and buy a dress from me and then wear that dress all over camp and on stage

– teaching people things they’ve been dying to learn for a long time, that may even ‘change their life’ (not my words)

– listening to stories in the evenings, by knitters, in an audience where almost no one is not knitting

– meeting *famous* people whose blogs i read and admire, who are even sweeter, funnier and more awesome in real life than i ever imagined, and finding out they actually know mine too

– selling every dress and book i brought to the final evening’s art fair

really what i want to tell you most is: GO! start saving now, and planning your time off… whatever it takes, you’ve simply got to get yourself there.

you need it. you deserve it. you’ll love it.

i promise.
