in mexico the whole week leading up to Day of the Dead was like a holiday, as people prepared their ofrendas, or offerings to their departed loved ones. the holiday itself lasts for two days, today being the second. the local cemetery in the town we were in was a hub of activity, and every grave had flowers, fruit and other favorite foods or drinks. i think this is such a beautiful tradition and way to remember those who aren’t with us any more!
